7. Cultivating your practice

In our last session together I wanted us to spend a moment to reflect on what we’ve created together:

  • We’ve reflected on the benefits of a sketchbook practice

  • We’ve thought a little about creativity and what we want to achieve from our creative practice

  • We’ve explored ways to consider what we like about our own art

  • We’ve spent time thinking about our interests and fascinations and what we want to explore in our sketchbooks

  • We’ve taken our sketchbooks and cameras out and about to seek inspiration

  • We’ve explored the potential and possibilities of some of our art materials and what we can do with them

  • We’ve explored ways to develop our own practice through observation, memory, repetition, recreating and reassembling images

  • We’ve started to think about how to assess our own work in terms of how it feels, our methodology and how it looks

I really hope that you end up valuing and relishing your sketchbook practice and that you feel emboldened to try things, experiment and explore. My hope for you is that your sketchbook adventure is both life-long and beautifully rewarding…
