WHY IS THIS SUCH A USEFUL ART TECHNIQUE?

  • These art books are low pressure and easy to make… it’s just a few pieces of paper, it’s not meant to be an artwork you display on a wall. The finished piece doesn’t have to be perfect, in fact I encourage ‘beautifully imperfect’ as your goal.

  • It is a process which often leads to finding a spark, a seed, a discovery which you may want to explore further.

  • There is something joyous about creating art for the sake of it, making something handmade, tactile and expressive. My hope is that this class will allow you to create with a playful freedom and delight in what you discover along the way.

  • These art books are a lovely addition to your art making practice, whatever your experience level these art books are a playful way to develop your art and discover new delightful things about your own art style.

  • These books can be part of your art tool-kit for life, they are wonderfully adaptable and joyful to make and can support discovery and experimentation at any point in your art making journey.

TESTIMONIAL

I wanted to thank you for this class. I finished it in one afternoon because I was so intrigued by the process. It is a very clever idea and a great way to start experimenting with all my different art supplies.

MATERIALS

To make the art book you will need paper, ( I’m using Fabriano 160gsm (90lb) A4 paper which I buy in bumper packs of 150 sheets, but you can use any paper you have which you can fold and which will cope with a little ink or paint)… glue, tape (such as masking tape) and scissors. You may want to neaten up the edges by using a craft knife and ruler.

This class contains techniques which use ink, watercolour paint, felt tip pens and collage paper, but the whole idea of these little books is to use what you have, to adapt them to make them your own and use the art materials you have access to. So if you don’t have this exact combination of art materials you can still use the essence of this class to make a lovely experimental art book. I encourage you to use whatever art supplies you have…
