HERE’S EXACTLY WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS ONLINE CLASS:
In this class you’ll learn how to use decorative patterned objects in your home, such as a vase or cup, as a starting point for beautiful, colourful pages in your sketchbook. We’ll be using water-based felt tip pens and coloured pencils.
We’ll be doing some super simple drawing of our objects and a lot of colouring in. This is the process I come back to again and again in my own sketchbooks. It has helped me to develop my style, learn about colour and composition and create art which feels personal, exciting and dynamic. I hope it will do the same for you.
It’s a simple accessible process and is perfect for those who feel they ‘can’t draw’ and yet it can create interesting, beautiful pages which help you to discover all sorts of important things about your own art sensibilities and preferences. It’s a process you can do whilst sitting watching television, using simple art materials such as felt tip pens and coloured pencils. But it’s also a process you can take and develop to create stunning artworks…
This one hour video class is packed full of tips, wisdom and my personal processes to help you develop a sketchbook practice which feels exciting, interesting and personal. This is the first in a series of short wisdom packed classes to help you develop your own sketchbook practice.
We will cover:
The magic of sketchbooks and why they can be such a powerful creative tool
Different types of sketchbook and some of my favourite art supplies
Discussion on abstract art and ‘abstracting’ from things and objects
Simple drawing techniques inspired by patterned objects in our home which will form the underpinning of our pages
A little bit of colour and compositional theory to help our pages pop
A demonstration of how exactly I go about creating a page from start to finish
The emphasis of this class is on experimentation, discovery and play
I’ll take you through the process step by step, sharing lots of advice and lots of art making insights and you’ll learn how to find interesting starting points for your art making all around you.
The class consists of a one hour video in English. English subtitles are included and can be turned on or off.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
A sketchbook and some coloured drawing materials
In this class we will be using coloured felt-tip pens and regular coloured pencils
Make sure your pens are water-based or dye based, not alcohol based markers as these bleed through most types of paper and so aren’t great for sketchbooks
