The Vase of Memories One (Money donated to Ukraine Relief Fund)
This painting is called The Vase of Memories One and is painted in acrylic paint on a cradled birch wood panel. I will donate 100% of the sale price of this particular painting to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund organised by GlobalGiving and will provide proof of this donation to the purchaser.
It is made by building up layer after layer of paint, richness, texture, colour and pattern. It is a unique one of a kind painting, but part of a series .
The paintings are called the Vase of Memories Series for two reasons. Each painting holds the memory of multiple layers of paint, and secondly vases as items, hold dear memories for me, personally. I’ve always loved colourful ceramics and pottery. I’m fascinated by them really: the fact they bring nature into our homes, the fact they’re handmade, tactile, decorative. To me they symbolise home.
Before I started work on this series I made some notes on how I wanted the paintings to feel and be, some broad intentions for the work. I wrote “joyful, painterly, exuberant, precious object, tactile.”
I chose to create them in acrylic paint as I wanted to build up a complex paint surface and for each painting to have a hidden history which occasionally reveals itself.
This wood panel was hand prepared with three light coats of primer and then I finished the painting with varnish and wax so it has a lovely lustre and tactile surface. This painting is ready to hang as is, or for you to frame depending on preference.
This painting is signed on the back.
